Getting to work!

With our training finally complete, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work! This was our first full week on our own. We are excited to get started

Before diving into our busy workweek, we start with a day of play. Every Monday is our Preparation Day (P-Day)—a time to take care of errands like shopping & laundry, but also to enjoy time with our junior missionaries.

Here in Sarajevo, we have three American fast food options: Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, and Taco Bell. We let our missionaries choose, and they opted for Taco Bell, so we ended up with a bag of tacos & burritos!

After lunch, we learned a new card game called The Secret Hiller, which is similar to Mafia. So much fun!

Our Sarajevo District is made up of two senior couples—us and the Smiths—along with a set of Elders and a set of Sisters. This week, our district is growing as we welcome two more Elders!

After three weeks of travel, we hadn’t had the chance to explore Old Town. So, we set aside an afternoon to soak in the beauty of this amazing city we’re blessed to call home.

On Wednesday, we hit the road, driving two hours through the beautiful Bosnian countryside to a small town called Bugojno. We were joined by another humanitarian aid organization, Muslim Aid, with whom we collaborate on several projects.

Our visit had an important purpose—we met with the mayor to sign official documents launching a new humanitarian project in Bugojno. Through this initiative, 20 families and the town itself will receive five beehives each, helping them start their own honey businesses. In addition to the beehives, they’ll receive training on beekeeping and business management. After a year, if they’re successfully managing their hives, they’ll receive three more to expand their operations.

Charles and I make a great team! He takes care of most of the boring office work, while I handle the accounting and document our journey through pictures and writing this  blog

On Friday, during rush hour, we headed to the Sarajevo airport to pick up our new missionary. Google Maps suggested a detour to save five minutes, but instead, it led us through narrow, winding back roads that felt more like small alleys. It was like being on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride!, More than once we had to back up to let a car pass

We arrived on time to meet our new missionary Elder Albright arrive with his trainer Elder McConkie

We welcomed two new missionaries to our district—Elder Albright, who just arrived in the mission field, and Elder McLeod, who is on his last transfer before heading home in three months. To celebrate their arrival in Sarajevo, we took the missionaries out for lunch. We had planned to introduce them to some authentic Bosnian cuisine, but they opted for an American brunch spot instead, enjoying waffles and omelets!

. We couldn’t have timed our mission better—we avoided most of the cold winter, and now signs of spring are beginning to appear
