Full steam ahead!

We’ve completed our second week and are still going full speed ahead. On Monday morning, we traveled to Belgrade, Serbia, to spend time with the missionaries serving in Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia for an inspiring Zone Conference.

We had visitors zoom in from Milan Italy to teach us new ways of finding. They are having great success

We left for the 5 hour drive home but first we stopped at IKea to get a few things for our apartment. Fun fact… all IKEA look the same inside all over the world. I could have been shopping in Irvine Orange County and I wouldn’t of known except for the price is in marks

There is a 2nd missionary couple who live in Sarajevo. They spent 2 weeks in Sarajevo and 2 weeks in Montenegro each month. They live in the apartment right below us. We were given the assignment to find a restaurant for a senior missionary conference that’s going to be taking place in Sarajevo in at the end of the month. We were happy to do the research.



We found an amazing Turkish restaurant just down 
the street from the hotel were everyone will be staying . They serve family style. we had soup and salad plus
 this was their plate of meat for four people. 
It was so delicious!

Yesterday we flew to Germany to get a week’s worth of humanitarian training with other new humanitarian missionaries that are serving in Central Europe. 
We have church offices here in Frankfurt Germany, that 
will be assisting us in all of our humanitarian projects.

On Monday we went with our friends at Muslim aid and interviewed potential candidates for greenhouses. We have 20 greenhouses for this city and we had 76 applicants.  Love this cute barn We do a point system. You receive points if you are unemployed, how many people live in the home, if you have a good property, if you are healthy etc.   Yes! Charles was interviewed for the local new and I was able to stand next to him with a smile on my face, pretending I understood every word. I just matched the newscaster's expressions. Last week, we got invited back to Bugojno. Eleven people were chosen to get 5 beehives each. They met with the mayor to sign their contracts and get some beehive training. We had no idea the local news would show up! They interviewed a few of the beneficiaries, the mayor, Admir (our partner from Muslim Aid), and Charles. New Friends

This week, we attended a Senior Missionary Conference, which takes place twice a year in different cities where missionaries are serving. This time, we were fortunate to host it in our beautiful city of Sarajevo.  The conference lasted 3 days. We had  presentations, training, game night, sight seeing and good food.  It was wonderful to meet the other senior missionaries who are serving across the Adriatic North Mission. Each of them are amazing, and we are so happy to have made so many wonderful new friends. There are 22 couples, 2 single women, a single man and our mission president and his wife, Kevin and Angelika Cordray.  All of us have assignments. Among us are 5 humanitarian couples (including us) serving in different countries. A few of our office missionaries manage logistical tasks—visas, housing, cars, finances, and more—while most work on member and leader support missions, assisting the small congregations throughout the five countries. Catching Up: Two Weeks of Mission Life in One Long Blog

11 years after our son Nathan took a photo at the top of Avaz Twist Tower during his mission when he served in Sarajevo, we stood in the same spot and snap the same picture.  Crazy to think we’re serving in the same city, just over a decade apart. It was a beautiful view of the city Bosnia has faced some serious flooding recently two major floods just in the past year. We were grateful to be able to help both times. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worked with the Red Cross and a local NGO, MFS Emmaus, to provide supplies like shovels, sandbags, drinking water, dryers to help dry out homes, and new flooring.  .   The water level got really high about 4 feet in some places.  Charles and the woman in green are showing  just how high it reached.  One family's greenhouse, their main source of income, was destroyed in the flood. She was so thankful for the help she received, and she gifted us a delicious watermelon.  Zone conference lets us k...
