Frankfurt Training

We had an amazing week in Frankfurt, getting additional training for our new role as Humanitarian Missionaries.

The church headquarters in Europe is in beautiful Frankfurt Germany. They own three floors of an office building that include a beautiful gym and cafeteria.

There’s so much to learn—how to complete expense reports, identify the right projects to focus on, and navigate the new self-reliance services being introduced in the humanitarian department. They had great training… And it helped that they had A table full of food with frequent breaks 😃

This is our support staff who work out of Frankfurt. It’s a well oiled machine to help us do our job correct correctly.

Charles is such a good sport—he’ll take photos with me with just a little bit of prodding

The church put us up in a really nice hotel in an adorable town called Bad Homburg.

One evening we were given a guided tour through old town,  beautiful Frankfurt.

They had huge walking street that had hundred of these fun trimmed Sycamore trees

The town Square Where Elder Uchtdorf  was married

I am in love with the old architecture

Despite the stormy weather, our tour guide pressed on, sharing a wealth of information about this incredible city. Being from dry California, Charles and I love the rain.

It was fascinating to see the old town right beside the towering modern high-rises. Our tour guide mentioned that locals call this area “Mainhattan.”

They treated the entire group to a wonderful authentic German dinner.

The next evening was spent at the beautiful Frankfurt temple. It was much smaller than I realized. Even smaller than our Newport Beach Temple. The highlight of the night is when I ran into Ankisa Ostarcevic  in the dressing room! Neither one of us realize we were both in Frankfurt at the same time.

These are our new friends that we met in January when we were at the MTC. The McMurtrey’s are humanitary missionaries in Albania. They spent the week with us in training

The 3 humanitarian couples who trained with us in Provo MTC and in Frankfurt. We are missing one couple who are in Moldova, who couldn’t make it to Frankfurt because of Visa problems. The couple in the middle are the Muelleck’s. They will oversee all of our projects from Frankfurt. It was so great getting to know them.

We returned home on Friday. Saturday we had a Relief Society birthday celebration at the church. I made some homemade chicken noodle soup and sister Smith made a delicious chocolate birthday cake

We were invite for Sunday dinner at the Casbeer home. They are an American family who works in the American Embassy. Marta Casbeer is from Spain and she is an amazing cook. She made a Thai food feast!

They hosted 8 missionaries! Which I learned is something they do all the time. I am so sad they will be moving to Africa this summer.

East a delicious apple 😊 I made a new dessert, but I got the recipe from our predecessor. It’s like a brookie. (Cookie brownie)
